Gold Show shaped with plenty of promise on her recent return to the level and at 13/2 looks to hold leading claims of landing the 2.30 at Catterick today.
Edwin Tuer’s mare last scored 12 months ago when staying on strongly to beat Carragold at Ponetfract with a bit more in hand than the 3/4 length winning margin suggests off a mark of 68.
Her form was a bit hit and miss after that success, but she did run several solid races to make the frame – including when third of 10 to Whispering Warrior at Newcastle off a amark of 69.
She now gets into this off just 65, 3lb lower than when last successful, and hinted that her time was near when third to Pertuis at Pontefract last time out.
The five-year-old showed plenty of pace to chase the leaders and went second two from home until being unable to find a change of gear inside the last.
She was not knocked about once it was clear she would not be winning, and it was an effort which suggested she was well worth another try at today’s 1m 4f trip.
The Ontoawinner syndicate-owned grey also has a decent draw in stall 3 from where her young rider Kevin Stott should be able to obtain a good early position, and with his claim taking another 5lb off her back she looks weighted to take the all the beating.
