Goodwood Storm was a big eye-catcher last time out and at 7/2 rates the best bet on today’s Lingfield card (3.40).

William Knight’s filly ran just three times as a juvenile and imrpoved with every outing.

She finished a solid third of 11 to Continental Drift over 6f at Kempton on her final start of 2013, shaping as if a step up in trip and a to handicaps would see her in a far better light.

The daughter of Shamardal confirmed that impression on her handicap debut over course and distance last month when finishing an unlucky in running fifth of 12 to Syrian Pearl.

After being staedied and switched left at the start, Goodwood Storm was held-up off the pace and denied a clear run when making her move a furlong from home.

In the end she stayed on well withoiut being unduly knocked about to be beaten 4 1/4 lengths, leaving the impression that she had running left in her.

It was an effort which suggested she should be more than capable of winning races from her current mark of 69, and she is sure to strip much fitter for that outing – her first for 195 days.

To me she looks a winner in waiting, and with Jim Crowley in the saddle looks sure to take all the beating for a trainer who boasts a healthy strike rate of just over 21.5% with his runners at the track in the past 12 months.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Goodwood Storm (7/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
