Towbee is back down below his last winning mark and with conditions to suit rates a solid bet at 4/1 in the 2.30 at Leicester today.

Mick Easterby’s gelding was last successful in the mud at Thirsk 12 months ago when staying on strongly to beat Whozthecat by a neck off a mark of 77 in a class 4 contest over 5f.

He went on to finish a solid second to Solar Spirit on soft ground at Catterick off 2lb lower, and also ran a cracker to chase home Barkston Ash in a 16-runner class 4 affair at Hamilton off 77.

The five-year-old has failed to trouble the judge in three starts this season, but all those runs have come in class 4 company and having started the campaign off on a mark of 79 he now runs off 75.

That is 2lb lower than when last successful and gives him major claims at the weights now dropped down to class 5 company.

The soft ground will certainly be in his favour, and with Paul Hanagan in the saddle he looks the one they all have to beat.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Towbee (4/1 Stan James – BOG)
