Groundworker is back down below his last winning mark and is strongly fancied at 5/1 to take advantage and land the spoils the 2.15 at Salisbury today.

Sylvester Kirk’s charge was a duak winner last season, landing a 5f contest on soft ground at Goodwood before going on to land a 5f affair at Windsor on quick ground when readily beating Gulland Rock by a length off a mark of 75.

The gelding got put up 3lb to 78 for that success and has subsequently failed to trouble the judge in four starts.

However, he has shaped as if needing the run and better than the bare result suggests in two starts this season and is now able to race off 73.

That is 2lb below his last success, and gives Groundworker major claims from a handicapping perpsective.

The four-year-old should also now be spot on to do himself justice, and represents a yard who are in good form at present.

With Pat Dobbs in the saddle, this looks a nice opportunity for Groundworker to get back into the winners’ enclosure.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Groundworker (5/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
