Hunting Ground can gun down his Lingfield rivals

Hunting Ground is interesting now stepped back up in trip in the 3.30 at Lingfield today and looks worth siding with at 6/1

Mark Johnston’s gelding to back to winning ways when stepped up to 2m 1f at Wolverhampton back in January after a break.

He led and drew clear to slam Flash Crash by 8 lengths without hardly having to break sweat off a mark of 84, and has since run two solid races off higher marks over shorter trips.

It seemed an odd move to drop to 1m 4f for those races at Southwell and this venue, and in the circumstances he has performed with great credit.

He got beat just a neck by Southwell specialist Masterful Act off 90, and then led for a long way before running wide rounding the home turn and being unable to quicken to finish fourth of 7 to Brass Ring here off today’s mark of 97.

To me he clearly needs a test of stamina to be seen to maximum effect, and it looks as if connections have been sharpening him up solely with this contest in mind.

The son of Street Cry now gets upped back up to 2m on the day a valuable pot is involved, and with Joe Fanning preferrring him to stable companion Blue Wave everything suggests a huge run is on the cards.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Hunting Ground (6/1 Betfred, BetVictor, Hills – BOG)
