Island Heights the standout bet at Carlisle

© 2012 Daily Sport Limited

Island Heights has a progressive profile and with underfoot conditions to suit rates the best bet on today’s card at Carlisle (2.10).

Lucinda Russell’s gelding opened his account over hurdles at the fourth time of asking when easily bearing Sam Lord by 24 lengths on bottomless ground at Ayr.

He went on to win over fences and be placed in four of his next seven starts, with the last five of those outings coming over the larger obstacles.

The six-year-old then had his attentions switched back to hurdles on seasonal reappearance, and only had to be driven out to beat Always Tipsy by a length on good-to-soft ground at Ayr off a mark of 120.

Island Heights gotnput up 5lb for that success but defied the rise in style when makiing all in the mud at Hyadock and staying on strongly to score by two lengths.

The gelding showed a tremendous willing attitude and never looked like getting beaten, and a further 5lb rise looks more than fair.

Island Hieghts is clearly proigressing at a rate of knots, and the ise is partly offset by the 3lb claim of Derek Fox.

With the tessting underfood conditions holding no fears, everything looks in place for Island heighst to land the hat-trick for a yard that has been in fine form this season.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Island Heights (3/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
