Juicy pair for Lingfield

Cut the Cackle can have last laugh

Cut The Cackle has been shaping as if ready to exploit his lenient handicap mark and is of major interest at 4/1 to score an overdue success in the 3.20 at Lingfield today.

The mare landed a 7f handicap at Kempton off a mark of 70 when trained by Peter Winkworth and is now able to run off just 54.

Now in the care of Richard Guest she has put in three really solid efforts on her latest starts, suggesting that she is ready to cash-in on her reduced mark.

She finished with a real rattle over 6f at Kempton to be beaten just 1 1/2 lengths by Glastonberry, and then put in a similar effort when staying on from off the pace to be beaten just a length by Bold Ring over today’s course and distance.

The five-year-old then once again caught the eye when staying on to be beaten just 2 lengths when finishing 5th of 13 to storm Runner last time out, and that form looks solid as the winner has since gone on to score again.

Her chances in this line-up are impossible to get away from, and for me she rates the best bet on the card.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 4pts win Cut The Cackle (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)

Grand Honour worth chancing at 14s

Grand Honour has not won for a long time but has run some really solid races at Lingfield and looks worth chancing at 14/1 in the finale today (3.50).

The gelding’s losing run stretches back to July 2008, but that win did come off a mark of 83 and he has run a number of respectable races since off marks in the 70s and now runs off just 46.

Peter Howling’s charge really caught the eye when travelling strongly and staying on well to finish a close up third over 7f at Kempton five starts ago  off a mark of 51 and although he has failed to build on that effort since he has shaped a bit better than his final finishing position suggests and is undoubtedly well treated on the pick of his form.

He has been placed at this track on numerous occasions off much higher marks, and it’s certainly interesting that connections are switching him back to the track after running him at Kempton on the last five occasions.

The obvious concern is if he still has the desire to win races, but this does represent a good opportunity form him and at 14/1 I think he’s worth risking.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Grand Honour (14/1 Stan James)
