Kelpie Blitz is on a handy mark in  the 3.50 at Lingfield today and makes plenty of appeal at 8/1 now returned to the all-weather surface for the first time this year.

Seamus Durack’s gelding opened his account at Brighton last august when easily bearing Swift Blade off a mark of 62 in a class 5 contest.

He then went on to run some solid races to finish in the frame before getting back to winning ways on the all-weather at Kempton in November when coming from off the pace to run on strongly and beat Neige D’antan in a class 5 affair off 70.

The four-year-old has been placed just once in 7 starts since that success when runner-up to Cashpoint in a 9-runner class 4 contest at Sandown on quick ground off a mark of 76.

He went down by just a length that day, and the winner went on to finish third to subsequent Cambridgeshire runner-up Code Of Honour next time up.

That looks strong form in the context of this class 5 contest, and he shaped as if he could be coming back to something like his best when fourth of 14 to Precision Five at Bath where he travelled strongly to take up the led two from home  befotre being carried right a furlong out and keeping on at the one pace to be beaten 3 1/2 lengths off a mark of 74.

He now gets into this contest off 72, and that is just 2lb higher than when he was last successful and gives him every chance at the weights – especially now switched back to the polytrack surface.

The son of Verglas had a a progressive profile on it last year, running solid races to finish third and fourth over today’s course and distance before winning in good style at Kempton and it’s interesting that connetions are now running him on it for the first time in nearly 12 months now that he is back down to a mark he can exploit.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Kelpie Blitz (8/1 bet365, Stan James – BOG)
