Kimberlite Candy ran too bad to be true last time out but if bouncing back looks a lively outsider in the 3.35 at Sandown today and worth a wager at 18/1.
That run came in the Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock where the Tom Tracey trained seven-year-old was never travelleing at any stage and eventually trailed in a distant ninth of 11 to Daklondike.
Prior to that he has won three his nine starts over fences in the mannre of a progressive sort. In the last of those at Ayr, he produced a career-best performance when beating Silver Tassie by 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 133.
After racing in touch in the hands of a confident Richie McLernon, the JP McManus owned gelding took up the running travelling strongly three from home.
Kimberlite Candy was then challenged by the eventually runner-up two from home, but found plenty when asked and stayed on strongly to win with a plenty in hand. .
Given the authority with which Kimberlite Candy got the job done his current mark of 137 should not be beyond him – especially as he has always been held in the highest regard and will relish the soft ground.
So, with McLernon once again in the saddle, it would be no suprise to see Kimberlite Candy show his running at Haydock all wrong and make his presence gelt in this.
