Knight Pass worth a punt

Knight Pass could be potentially thrown in at the weights in the finale at Kempton (3.40) and is of major interest at 9/2.

warren Greatrex’s gelding was a top class bumper horse and made a smooth transition to hurdling when scoring in good style at Exeter last month following a lengthy lay-off.

He jumped well that day and stayed on strongly to comfortably beat Outrageous Request by just under three lengths, and although subsequently beaten into third behind Tetlami when sent off at odds-on to follow-up at Sandown he was far from disgraced and shaped as if the step up in trip to today’s 2m 5f would see him in far better light.

To me he looks the type who will come into his own in staying events and the handicapper could well have let him in lightly from an opening mark of 125.

He has always been held in the very highest regard, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn out to be 10lb better than his current rating.

If that’s the case then he has the potentially to make a mockery of his current mark, and he is definitely open to bags more improvement than any of today’s rivals.

With everything seemingly in his favour he has to be the one they all have to beat.
