Raise a glass to Grands Crus

Grands Crus is one of the most exciting novice chasers I have seen and at 11/8 looks banker material in the 2.00 at Kempton today to maintain his unbeaten record over the larger obstacles.

David Pipe’s grey was a top class staying hurdler an found only the mighty Big Buck’s too strong for him in the World Hurdle and the Liverpool Hurdle last season.

He was the only one top give Paul Nicholls’ superstar a race in the former, and he has a high cruising speed and turn of foot that could to him right to the very top over fences.

The six-year-old was awesome when slamming Champion Court by 10 lengths on his chasing debut at Cheltenham where he jumped like a stag apart from one mistake and then pulled effortlessly clear to win with his head in his chest.

He then had to dig deeper to follow-up and beat Sonofvic at Newbury last month, but he was giving 7lb to that very highly rated rival and I think time will show that it was a cracking effort under the circumstances.

To me Grands Crus has everything and already looks a future potential Gold Cup winner, and I can’t see any reason why he will not prove too strong for Bob’s Worth and Silviniaco Conti.

I actually thought he would be around an even money shot for this, so at 11/8 he looks overpriced and rates the best bet of the day.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 8pts win Grands Crus (11/8 Paddy Power – BOG, Stan James)
