Legendary the standout wager at Wolves

Legendary put in a cracking effort when runner-up last time out and is strongly fancied at 6/1 to go one better in the 7.00 at Wolverhampton this evening.

Ed Vaughan’s gelding reserves his best for the polytrack surface and has won twice and finished runner-up on the two occasions on it.

He was most impressive in the last of those successes over a mile at Kempton back in June where after tracking the leaders that day he took up the running a furlong from home powered clear to beat Wilfred Pickles by 6 lengths off a mark of 75.

The four-year-old looked sure to win more races judged on that effort but got turned over at odds-on 7 days later when runner-up to Silver Alliance on the turf at Yarmouth and then disappointed at Doncaster shortly after when finishing just 7th of 9 to Storm King.

It may well have been that those races came too quickly for him, and he has the given a 145-day break before reappearing at Kempton in November and finishing fourth of 11 to Dixie’s Dream.

Although eventually beaten 6 lengths that day he ran far better than that suggests, travelling well for much of the contest until being unable to make any impression on the leading pair after going third two from home and then weakening inside the last.

The way he ran that day suggested he needed the race, and he duly stepped up on that effort when an excellent second of 9 to Scottish Glen last time out over a mile at Lingfield off today’s mark of 83.

Jimmy Quinn was forced to rush him up from a wide draw that day and he arguably did a bit too much too soon before getting collared late on and beat 3/4 of a length.

However it was a run which suggested his current mark ewas not beyond him, and the step back up in trip to 1m 1f may well suit.

Indeed he won his maiden over course and distance impressively by 3 lengths, and from a good draw this time in stall 2 he is taken to get back to winning ways.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Legendary (6/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
