Magpies value in Anfield clash

Liverpool take on Newcastle at Anfield tonight (7.45pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1) and the Magpies look terrific value at 6/1 to inflict the first home defeat of the season on the Reds.

Bookmakers surprisingly make Liverpool 4/7 shots for victory, despite the fact that they have been really struggling to score goals on their home patch.

OK, they are unbeaten in 9 games but they have drawn six of those and will be without the banned Luis Suarez who is central to vereythi9ng that they do.

Without him they are relying on Andy Carroll to deliver the goods, and so far he has failed to give any sort of return on the £35 million transfer fee paid to tonight’s opponents.

He is really going to have to step up to the plate and start firing home with regularity if Liverpool are to maintain their challenge for a top four finish, and although he is sure to be fired up for this I find it difficult to put any faith in him producing the goods.

If that’s the case then Kenny Dalglish’s men are really going to struggle in this despite the fact that they have won 14 and lost none of their last 16 Premier League games against the Magpies at Anfield.

Newcastle have been a revelation this season, thanks in the main to the goal scoring exploits of Demba Ba who has now netted 21 goals in just 25 PL starts.

They currently sit just one place and one point behind the Reds, and have a terrific away record having lost just two out of 10 (won 4, drawn 4).

Tim Krul has also been superb for them in goal, and they have the sixth best defence away from home in the league.

To me then, there is no way that Newcastle should be as big as 6/1 with Victor Chandler to win this.

That price looks absolutely huge, as does the 4/1 with Betfred about Newcastle in the draw/no bet market if you like some extra security.

I can’t see Newcastle coming away empty handed, and Betfred’s price looks way too big given that Ladbrokes go just 11/4.

In the first goal scorer market it has to be Demba Ba at 8/1 that is generally on offer.
