Margarito v Cotto – Undercard Preview

Brandon Rios v John Murray

The chief support to the mouth-watering Cotto V Margarita card sees the unstoppable Brandon Rios 28-0 (21 kos) squaring off against Britain’s John Murray 31-1 (18kos).

Murray would perhaps wouldn’t be in this position if it was for his conqueror Kevin Mitchell legal woes (Mitchell has temporarily lost his boxing licence) but nonetheless will grab his chance with both hands and is guaranteed to be in tip top shape for what is unquestionable the fight of his life.

Rios has been a beast at lightweight since he smashed Jorge Teron inside of three rounds  back in 2010. He won the title from Miguel Acosta whilst dropping him three times and dished out a brutal beating inside of 10 rounds in the process. In his next defence the very capable Urbano Antillon suffered a three round crushing. Rios just walks through his opposition and his strategy is simply seek and destroy.

That this exactly what is going to happen. If Murray runs and tries to box then he might last a few rounds, but that is not his style and  he will want to give his fans something to remember. Unfortunately they won’t have much to cheer about as he runs into something bigger, stronger and possibly something very special indeed.

Mike Jones V Sebastian Lujan

In an IBF Welterweight Eliminator rising star “Machine Gun” Mike Jones 25-0(19kos) faces the tough Argentinean  Sebastian Lujan 38-5(24kos).

The quiet and unassuming Jones, who prefers to do his talking with his fists, surely wants to make a splash in the ring to prove to the world there is more than Kell Brook creating shock-waves in the division.

He is an amazing specimen and it’s incredible that at 6ft tall he manages to cram himself down to Welterweight. He is a fighter I really want to keep on the right side of, and he proved in his two battles with Karrass he can box smart as well as slug it out.

Lujan has been in a rich vein of form recently, winning 12 in a row since going down to our own Jamie Moore. He is tough and a little bit wild but he is made to measure for Jones as he won’t run. That is a major factor and makes Jones the best bet of the weekend.

Daily Sport recommended bet:

3pts (maximum) Mike Jones to beat Sebastian Lujan in rounds 1-12 – 11/8 Paddy Power
