David Lanigan’s Masquerading could well have got in lightly on his handicap debut in the 4.30 at Yarmouth and is of major interest at 7/2.
The gelding caught the eye on his debut at Kempton when badly in need of the experience and finishing 8th of 12 under considerate handling.
He then duly stepped up on that effort next time up at Kempton where he beat Royal Signaller with far more in hand than the winning margin of 3/4 of a length suggests.
Held-up in touch in fifth, he made smooth headway on the outside two from home and only had to be shaken up to assert and put the race to bed inside the last before being eased close home.
It was an effort which suggested he had a touch of class and that there was plenty more to come, and his opening mark of 82 certainly doesn’t look to be beyond him judged by the manner of his success.
He is certainly bred to be better than it, as the son of Singspiel is a half brother to Dewhurst runner-up Fencing as well as Prix de Diane runner-up Millionaia.
To me he is one that needs keeping firmly on the right side of this season, and with his trainer in good form this looks a good opportunity to follow-up his Kempton success before going on to better things.
