McBirney and Baker a tasty punt at Kempton

Mcbirney is well-treated on the pick of his form in the 6.40 this evening and is strongly fancied at 4/1 to score an overdue success now oartnered by George Baker for the first time.

Paul D’Arcy’s gelding is a dual winner at the track who was last successful over 1m 4f here last March when easily beating King Olav by 5 lengths off a mark of 69.

He went on to run some solid races on the turf off higher, finishing third in a class 4 contest at Newmarket off 74 and occupying the same spot behind the progressive Mankini at headquarters off 74.

The seven-year-old now gets into this class 6 affair off a career-low of 60, 9lbs lower than when last successful, and that gives him a big shout at the weights.

Although he has not been at his best, Mcbirney lost all chance will a slow start at Wolverhampton last time out and was never able to get competitive, and the return to this venue may well see him in a far better light.

He is now undoubtedly too well-treated to ignore, and the booking of Baker to do the steering certainly catches the eye.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Mcbirney (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
