Mill Mick looks terrific value at 14/1 to gain an overdue success in the finale at Wolverhampton tonight (9.15).
John Mackie’s charge went into my notebook as a sure fire future winner when showing improved form on his handicap debut at Haydock back in July.
He travelled very strongly at the rear of the field that day before making good headway to from home to hold every chance until being able to find any extra at the business end of affairs.
The gelding could only keep on at the one pace to finish just over a 3 length fifth of 8 to Number Theory, but ran far better than his finishing position suggests.
The way he travelled for much of the 1m 2f journey suggested that he would definitely pick up a handicap before the season was out.
He confirmed that impression last time out when runner-up to Brouhaha in an apprentice handicap over 10f at Haydock off a mark of 66, and the handicapper may have taken a chance by allowing him to run off the same mark now switched to the all-weather surface for the first time.
I am convinced that he is capable of winning a race of this nature, and at 14/1 with Paddy Power and Victor Chandler he has to be an each-way play
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Mill Mick (14/1 Paddy Power, Victor Chandler- BOG)
