Orpington boxer Lloyd Miller say’s winning the Queensbury British Middleweight title next month would be the greatest achievement of his boxing career.
The 27 year-old will challenge undisputed pound for pound champion Gareth Gardner on Saturday May 9th for the coveted title at the famous Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey in the main event of the league’s blockbuster evening of championship boxing.
The Orpington stylist was last in action at the beginning of March when he produced a career best performance to rip the Queensbury national Super Middleweight title away from champion Terry Russell at the Alexandra Palace, but Miller knows he’s facing the best of the best next month as he drops down a division in his quest to be crowned British champion.
Talking ahead of the biggest night of his boxing journey Miller said: “ I know I’m fighting the best of the best in Gareth Gardner, but I’m confident I’ve got enough to beat him and take his title.
“I’ve watched Gareth in the league many times and he’s a special fighter who can box and fight, plus he’s got an incredible work rate which is why he’s such a great fighter.
Croydon’s Gardner has yet to taste defeat in the competition since joining the televised boxing show 3 years ago off the back of a 50 fight amateur career which saw him represent England on many occasions, and although Miller lacks the experience the champion possesses he is more than confident he can be the first man to beat the champion and lift the competitions ultimate prize.
“ I’m coming into this fight off the back of a great win against Russell and I’ve already got a head start as I’ve still retained my fitness from that fight.
“I’ve already started sparring for this one and I’m looking at really focussing on that in the build up to the fight, and beating Gardner and getting my hands on that belt would mean absolutely everything to me so get ready for one of the greatest fights the show has ever seen.
Miller’s title challenge will headline the Queensbury Boxing League’s bumper line up of championship boxing taking place in the Oaks arena at the Epsom Downs Racecourse on Saturday May 9th, and for more information on the show log on towww.queensburyboxing.co.uk
