Mountain Range and Moore appeal at 14s

The well-treated Mountain Range has conditions to suit in the 4.30 at Nottingham and with Ryan Moore in the saddle makes plenty of each-way appeal at 14/1.

John Dunlop’s gelding looked a handicapper to keep on the right side when staying on strongly to win on soft-ground at Sandown last July off a mark of 75, and went on to finish a fine when runner-up to Anatolian at Newbury off 83 before registering his last success here off 82 last November.

He shaped well on his seasonal reappearance when keeping on nicely to finish 6th of 15 to Ithoughtitwasover in a competitive class 2 contest at Newmarket off 87, and although he has failed to build in his next four starts he has run far better than his form figures suggest.

The son of High Chaparral caught the eye two starts back at Kempton where after losing vital ground after dwelling at the start he made good late steady headway from an uncompromising position to finish a 5 1/4 length 7th of 12 to Roxy Flyer.

He was not given a hard time whatsoever, and then followed that up with an 8th of 14 to Enthusiastic at the same venue last time up.

The four-year-old made good headway two from home and held every chance at the furlong pole before being unable to find any extra and weakening and has since been dropped another couple of pounds by the handicapper.

He now gets into this off a mark of 77 – just 2lb than his last win on the turf – and significantly his best races have come when there has been cut in the ground and today’s underfoot conditions look ideal.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Mountain Range (14/1 bet365, Betfred, BetVictor – BOG)
