Muckle Roe looks potentially well-treated om handicap debut in the 3.35 at Southwell today and makes plenty of appeal at 11/1.

Nigel Twiston-Davies charge has shaped with promise in maiden/novice hurdles, most notably when runner-up to Mountain King in a 13-runner affair at Ludlow back in January.

Held-up that day, he made good headway five from home and after hitting three out stayed on well to be beaten 12 lengths.

Although not match for the easy winner, Mountain King is a useful sort now rated 135 and Muckle Roe finished 3 1/4 lengths in front of Red Seventy who went on to score next time up on handicap debut off a mark of 117.

That is strong form in the context of this class 4 contest and makes Muckle Roe’s opening mark of 114 look exploitable.

He also has the services of Ryan Hatch in the saddle whose claim takes another 5lbs off his back, and his handler is in red-hot form at present.

Although Muckle Roe was not at his best last time out when sent off the 5/2 favourite and finishing just sixth at Ludlow, it may well be that he was unsuited by the forcing tactics that day and he could prove a different propsoition returning from a break if connections revert to the hold-up tactics which saw him chase home Mountain King.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Muckle Roe (11/1 BetVictor, Ladbrokes, Stan James – BOG)
