Mud-loving Chase The Spud looks tasty at 9/1

Chase The Spud looks nicely treated on the pick of his form and worth an each-way wager at 9/1 in the 4.30 at Carlisle today now dropped back down in grade.

Fergal O’Brien’s nine-year-old was last successful in a graduation chase on heavy ground at Exter 12 months ago when beating Fingalm Bay by 7 lengths off an official rating of 130.

He went on to finish a decent third in a handicap at Chepstow off 134 and ran really well on his second starts this season when chasing home Mysteree in a competitive 12-runner class 3 contest at Haydock off 130.

Although not so good last time out at Cheltenham, he was far from disgraced in finishing seventh of 16 to Tour Des Champs in a class 2 contest off 133.

He is now able to race in this class 3 affair off 132, and that looks workable.

Chase The Spud also relishes testing conditions and hails from a yard that is enjoying a terrific season.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Chase The Spud (9/1 bet365, BetVictor, Ladbrokes, Sky Bet, William Hill – BOG)
