3/1 Overturn looks rock solid
A fascinating renewal of the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle today (2.20) and Overturn looks cracking value at 3/1 to get the better of odds-on favourite Binocular.
The dual purpose gelding doesn’t know how to run a bad race and is a credit to his handler Donald McCain.
The gelding is a battle hardened front runner, and made a solid return to hurdling action when taking a Grade 2 event at ascot last weekend.
Although he was being challenged by Oscar Whiskey when that one came to grief at the last he would have gone close to winning anyway and is entitled to come on a bundle for the run.
His guaranteed fitness is a major plus, and with Celestial Halo in the field a strong gallop is assured and will test inocular’s fitness to the full.
There is no doubt that Nicky Henderson’s 2010 Champion Hurdle winner is the class act in the field, but he has been beaten at odds-on in this contest for the last two years.
He is never at his best first time up, and Overturn possesses all the right qualities to take his scalp this afternoon.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Overturn (3/1 bet365, Boylesports, Ladbrokes – BOG)
Bene looks a likely lad at 7/1
Bene Lad shaped with plenty of promise on his comeback run and makes plenty of appeal at 7/1 in the 1.45 at Newcastle today.
Jim Goldie’s nine-year-old stayed on well from off the pace under tender handling to finish a 12 1/2 length fourth of 10 to Storm Surge over 2m 1f at Kelso when looking badly in need of the run.
He had been off the track for 208 days and it was clear that connections were keen not to subject him to a hard race over a distance which was short of his best.
Today’s 2m 4f journey will suit him much better, and I think it will enable him to turn the tables on Storm Surge who he now meets on 16lb better terms.
The gelding certainly looks well treated enough at the foot of the weights, and in a race where the leaders could cut each others throats he can hopefully bring his stamina into play at the business end of affairs to land the spoils.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Bene Lad (7/1 Ladbrokes – BOG)
