Newton Lad a punt at 6s

Newtown Lad returned to form when runner-up last time out and looks worth a punt to go one better in the 4.40 at Carlisle today.

Lucinda Russell’s eight year-old progressed well over fences last season when winning twice.

In the last of those at Ayr on heavy ground he raced prominently before pulling clear from six out to win easily by 19 lengths off a mark of 118.

He got put up to 125 for that success and was running a decent race off it when falling four from home at Uttoxeter in a contest won by American.

Newtown Lad is running off the same mark here after being nudged up 2lb for a fine effort at Newcastle 20 days ago when going down by just a length to De Vois A Moi, with the pair pulling nine lengtsh clear of the third.

That was an effort which suggested he was ready to go in again and with underfoot conditions in his favour Newton Lad looks to have lenty going for him.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win Newton Lad (6/1 bet365, BetVictor, Coral – BOG)
