On A par worth a punt at 10s

On A Par looks on a handy mark at present and decent value at 10/1 in the 4.30 at Beverley today now fitted with the cheekpieces for the first time.

Tim Easterby’s charge showed little in maidens but duly improved on handicap debut when keeping on to finish an eye-catching fourth to Pumaflor in a class 5 contest over 1m at Pontefract off an opening mark of 64.

The three-year-old backed that up with a similar effort when third to Stardrifter over 1m 1f at Carlisle off 62, keeping on at the one pace to be beaten 2 1/4 lengths in another class 5 affair.

On A Par then ran well at Mussleburgh when a staying on 1 3/4 length third off the same rating before putting in two below par efforts.

However, the handicapaper dropped him a couple of pounds as a result and he bounced back to finish a solid 2 lengths fourth of 9 to Gone With The Wind last time out over 1m at Beverlry off 60.

He gets in this class 6 contest off the same rating, and the bigger field should ensure that On A Par gets the strong gallop he needs to be seen at his best.

The fitting of the cheekpieces to sharpen him up also looks a good move, as he often travels well but hits a flat spot before staying on again at the death.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win On A Par (10/1 Betfred, BetVictor, Coral, Stan James, Sky Bet, William Hill – BOG)
