Open Hearted handicapped to strike at Kempton

Open Hearted looks on a handy mark now switched back to hurdles in the 4.35 at Kempton and is strongly fancied at 9/2 to take advantage and land the spoils.

Nicky Henderson’s charge developed into a useful hurdler last season, winning three on the bounce before finishing 14th of 24 to Attaglance in the Martin Pipe Conditionals at the Cheltenham Festival.

His last win came at Fakenham off an official rating of 126, where he only had to be pushed out to beat Kuilsriver with far more in hand than the 1 3/4 lengths winning margin suggests.

The pair finished 33 lengths clear of the third, and the runner-up has developed into a useful sort who recently landed a very competitive class 2 handicap at Ascot.

I think that is strong form and makes Open Hearted look fairly treated off a mark of 135 given his progressive profile.

He also shaped encouragingly on his first start this season over fences at Newbury after 306 days on the sidelines and is sure to strip much fitter this afternoon.

I also think it is a shrewd move to switch him back to the smaller obstacles, and with Barry Geraghty in the saddle he rates the best bet on the card.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Open Hearted (9/2 generally available – use BOG firms)
