The day’s first Premier League game sees struggling Crystal Palace play host to a badly out of form Liverpool (1.30pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1), and in a tough game to call the home side look worth a small punt at the general 100/30 on offer.

Palace have lost four of their last five and Liverpool four of their last eight.

The Merseysiders have struggled in attack since the departure of Luis Saurez and the loss of Daniel Sturridge due to injury, and that is highlighted by the fact that own goals is currently their joint top scorer this season.

The Reds have also looked a shambles in defence, and manager Brendan Rogers’ has made some bizarre decisions so far this season and seems to be a man under real pressure whose anxiety is spreading to his players.

They are nowhere near the same side that finished runners-up in the league last season, and given that they threw away a 3-0 advantage in this fixture last term when drawing 3-3 there is no way I could back them at odds-on to win this.

Palace are similarly struggling to win games and currently sit second bottom in the league.

However, Neil Warnock’s side have often played better than recent results indicate and with home advantage I can see them serving it up to Liverpool and causing a bit on an upset.

Dwight Gayle has scored three goals in two Premier League appearances against Liverpool, and that makes him look worth a wager at the 8/1 generally available in the first goalscorer market and a tasty looking 3/1 with Betfred and 888sport to net anytime.
