Taylor meets Gary Anderson in the final of the William Hill PDC world championship – and reckons there could be “one or two” nine darters in the best-of-13 sets shoot out to decide the biggest prize in darts.
Taylor twice threw seven perfect darts in his semi-final trouncing of Ray van Barneveld on Saturday night, but the 54 year-old from the Potteries says that even if he does throw a perfect nine tonight, he will still throw away his darts afterwards.
He has been throwing new darts – an extra groove has been added – since the third-round match with Vincent van der Voort and said: “I’ve got new darts and they are starting to click now.
“But if I win the world championship with these darts, they will get thrown in the bin and I will get some new ones.
“There will be some type of improvement that can be made to them. I’m always looking to improve. I always want to get better.”
Anderson reached his second world championship final with a come-from-behind 6-3 win over defending champion Michael van Gerwen.
Anderson, aiming to be the first Scot to win a world darts title since Les Wallace won the BDO championship in 1997, overturned a 3-1 deficit to reach the final and says he wanted to meet ‘The Power.’
He said: “If you’re going to win the world title, you want to beat Phil. That makes it extra special.”
