Placidia worth a punt at 14/1

Placidia makes plenty of appeal at 14/1 in the 5.05 at Lingfield today now returned to the scene of her last success of what looks a workable mark.

David Lanigan’s filly shaped with plenty of promise in her final two runs of last season, and ran really well on reapperance when runner-up to Insaany on handicap debut at Nottingham.

She kept on to be beaten 2 1/4 lengths, and the winner has gone on to score twice since and is now rated 84.

Placidia was then dropped back into maiden company and opened her account in good style over course and distance when easily beating Scallop by 2 1/2 lengths.

The runner-up went on to bolt up in a maiden before winning a handicap off 84, and was the far from disgarced last time out off 87 when fourth in a handicap at Beverley.

Placidia then ran far better than her finishing position suggests when 8th of 10 to Oasis Fantasy in a handicap over 1m 4f at Goodwood, where after being held-up she made good headway three from home and led two out until being headed at the furlong marker and weakening inside the last.

The trip was clearly too far for Placidia and all her best form has come at today’s trip of 1m 2f.

Although she could finish just fifth of six to Erroneus last time out at Yarmouth, that was her first run for 72 days and she was not knocked about whatsoever.

It should  have put her spot on for this contest, which her stable won last year with Tinghir, and the return to the polytrack surface is a major plus.

Off a mark of 82 she doesn’t look badly treated on the pick of her form, and with the stable flying and Ted Durcan in the saddle a huge run looks on the cards.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Placidia (14/1 Sky Bet – BOG)
