Alexander Povetkin 23-0 (16 KO’s) got off to a flying start in Helsinki to KO American Cedric Boswell 35-2 (26 KO’s) in 8 rounds in a cracking first defence of his WBA Heavyweight crown.
In front of a 12,738 sell-out crowd at the Hartwell Arena Povetkin started well picking Boswell off with some thundering shots. By the 7th the Russian was well on top and it was only the bell that saved Boswell. In the 8th Povetkin finished him off with a volley of big shots ending Boswell’s night with a big KO win for Povetkin.
After the fight Povetkin said “This was a good win for me,” he stated afterwards. “The preparation with Teddy Atlas had gone very well. I did what I was supposed to do in the ring and I am happy about the result.”
The post-fight press conference was interrupted by WBO Cruiserweight Champ Marco “Captain” Huck who stormed to the podium to challenge Povetkin. “I have defended my title eight times, I need a new challenge at heavyweight,” Huck said. Povetkin was quick to accept: “Let’s get it on,” he replied.
Daily Sport says – A great win by Povetkin and can’t see Huck troubling him since he’s not a massive puncher at Cruiserweight.
