Powell’s Lady a solid punt at Plumpton

The unexposed Lady From Geneva looks weighted to take all the beating in the 4.40 at Plumpton and at 4/1 rates the best bet on the card.

Brendan Powell’s mare showed plenty of promise when placed on her first two starts in bumpers last year and was then far from disgraced when 6th of 12 to the highly regarded Centasia in a bumper at Wincanton.

She then had her attention switched to hurdling and has shaped really well in her first two starts over the obstacles without being unduly punished.

The six-year-old raced wide, made a couple of costly errors and got hampered when staying on late over 2m at Towcester to finish 4th of 14 to Valrene, and then caught the eye at Exeter when fourth of 11 to Young Victoria over 2m 3f.

She seemed to have come on a bundle for the experience that day and raced with enthusiasm up with the pace before being headed and outpaced three from home.

However she then stayed on again at the death, suggesting that she would be seen to better effect when her stamina was brought into play.

Connections then duly upped her in trip for her handicap debut at Huntingdon last time out, and she ran a cracker to finish fourth of 17 to Seymour Eric over 3m 2f.

The winner, who beat her 8 1/2 lengths, has since gone on to complete the four-timer in impressive fashion at Haydock and is now rated 135 and that makes the selection look on a handy mark in this off the same mark of 98.

A drop back in trip to 2m 5f this afternoon shouldn’t be any problem for her, and given that she seems to be improving with every run over the obstacles this looks a nice opening for her to open her account.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Lady From Geneva (4/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
