Some good jumping action at Perth today, where several Irish raiders looks to hold outstanding chances.
“Shark” Hanlon introduces a potentially smart hurdling recruit in the opener (2.25) in the shape of Mart Lane.
The horse looked above average when winning on his bumper debut at Leopardstown back in January and was far from disgraced when ninth of 15 to Samain in a valuable contest at the Curragh on his only other start when sent off second favourite.
He looks the type to come into his own over the obstacles, and this looks a golden opportunity for him to open his account over obstacles at the first time of asking.
6/5 is now the best price available, and he much preferred to the odds-on jolly Hard To Swallow.
Hanlon came make it an opening double on the card courtesy of One For Joules in the handicap hurdle at 3.00.
The filly is a really consistent sort who was a good fourth at Galway last time out and takes a drop in class this afternoon.
This race looks hers for the taking, and at 2/1 she looks a solid punt.
The ultra shrewd Tony Martin sends over Talkin Tough for the finale at 5.30, and it’s significant that the potentially well treated gelding has halved in odds this morning from 10/1 into 5s in places.
Martin very rarely leaves the cash in the bookies satchels when the money is down, and a huge run is clearly expected from Talkin Tough who should be backed at the remaining 6/1 currently available.
The other horse of major interest on the card is Bescott Springs who runs in the 4.45.
This one is trained by leading Scottish handler Lucinda Russell and looks a nice handicap chaser in the making.
He looked a horse to keep on the right side when winning back at Hexham in June and looks solid each-way value at 13/2 with Hills to score for the home contingent.
