Richard of Yorke created a huge impression when winning on debut and looks decent value at 5/1 to follow-up in the 7.35 at Sandown this evening.

The Luca Cumani trained colt was sent off 14/1 for a 1m 2f maiden at Windsor, and after being held-up and running green was denied a clear run two from home when trying to make a move.

Jockey Lemos De Sousa then switched him to the inside, and Richard Of Yorke responded well for pressure to burst through horses inside the final furlong an get up close home to beat Wonder Laish.

Given how the race panned out it was a terrific effort, and there was lots to like about the way he knuckled down to the task and showed braveness to go between horses despite looking badly in need of the experience.

The runner-up has also previously run well to be third at the track in a decent maiden, and has subsequently gone on to bolt up by 15 lengths in a maiden at Lingfield yesterday in the manner of a smart prospect.

That gives the form a solid look, and an opening handicap mark of 85 for Richard Of Yorke could well be on the lenient side given that his handler doesn’t have many first time out winners and his horses generally improve significantly with experience.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Richard Of Yorke (5/1 bet365, William Hill – BOG)
