Mr Win shaped well on seasonal reappearance and is strongly fancied at 5/1 to land the spoils in the 2.40 at Goodwood today.

Chris Wall’s gelding showed progressive form last season when sent handicapping, bolting up by 9 lengths over 7f at at Lingfield after finishing an unlucky in-running sixth of 13 over course and distance.

He went on to land a 6f handicap at Newmarket in good style by 2 lengths from Angel Flores off a mark of 83 when running on strongly and only having to be driven out, and backed that up with an excellent third of 12 to Telmeyd over 6f at Ascot off his current mark of 92.

Mr Win looked a bit unlucky in the latter as he stumbled at the start before running on strongly from off the pace to be beaten 2 3/4 lengths.

The four-year-old was then off the track for 217 days before running far better than his finishing position suggests when 8th of 13 to Basil Berry at Ascot two weeks ago.

He travelled well for much of the contest until weakening as lack of race fitness took it’s toll and was not knocked about.

That should have put Mr Win spot on for this, and the step back up to 7f will hold no fears.

To me he looks the type who could have plenty more to offer this season, and  with William Buick in the saddle rates the one they all have to beat.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Mr Win (5/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
