Riflescope has dropped to a dangerous mark and looks worth an each-way wager at 14/1 in the 3.15 at Newmarket today now stepped up in trip.

Mark Johnston’s charge had some smart form as a juvenile, winning twice and finisning a fine staying on 1 1/2 length fourth to Waterloo Bridge in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He started life off in handicaps on a mark of 102, but having failed to trouble the judge in four starts this seasom is now able to race off just 91.

That makes him nicely treated onm the pick of his form and he didn’t shape too badly last time out when getting hampered and finishing a not knocked about 15th of 20 in a 6f contest at this venue.

The three-year-old now steps up significantly in trip to 1m and given the way he has finsihed off some of his races it may well suit the son of Raven’s Pass.

He also hails from a stable who are renowned for getting horses to suddenly spring back to life following a string of below par efforts and off just 8st 5lb looks weighted to run a huge race.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Riflescope (14/1 bet365, William Hill – BOG)
