Ronnie Clark is relishing the prospect of locking horns with fellow Scot Michael Stupart for the vacant Scottish area super-featherweight title in his home city of Dundee on March 9.
The former kick-boxing world champion is unbeaten in eight contests, including two draws, since switching his attentions to the sweet science in April 2011.
Reunited with trainer Lex Easdon, the man that guided “The Shark” to world level status in kickboxing, Clark is confident of reaching the top in boxing.
“I had dreams of being the best at kickboxing so I travelled to Paisley a few times every week to train with Lex who helped me on my way to the top,” said Clark. “But when Lex emigrated to Australia it messed me up a little, but I’m glad to have him back and we will try making our way to the top of the boxing world.”
With national pride at stake Clark is not underestimating the threat of Stupart, 2-6-1 (1), despite the Dunfermline man being stopped in the first round last time out against teen debutant Isaac Lowe in October.
“I fought him as an amateur and he is tough as old boots. I just love how he is so game and not scared of anyone. I wish every boxer had his attitude.”
Clark, 28, is confident his meticulous preparation will see him declared the new Scottish area champion.
“I train hard for every fight and this one ain’t any different from the last one or the one before that. I just got to keep trying and one day someone will realise I have that little something that other fighters don’t have.”
Clark outboxed Abdul Rashid in his last outing for a comprehensive points victory over eight sessions, but Clark’s stand-out fight to date was a draw with Cromer’s Ryan Walsh.
Both men played their part in a small-hall thriller at the Norfolk Showground in November as they slugged it out over the ten round distance.
Clark believes he could stop Walsh if they were to meet again, “I felt really drained as I never had much preparation for that fight and I had to crash diet for the weight.
“I hurt Walsh a lot in the fight and I guess a rematch would be amazing, but will it ever happen? People never really want to fight me after the first encounter.”
