The booking of Jim Crowley to partner Rose Garnet in the 1.35 at Wolverhampton today really catches the eye and she is of serious interest at 11/4.
The filly did us a favour when backed in from the advised 15/2 into 3/1 on her debut for Tony Carroll at Kempton in November and landed the gamble in style.
She flew out of the gates and made all in the hands of apprentice Ryan Tate, keeping on well for pressure to beat Pharoh Jake with a bit more in hand than the winning margin of 3/4 of a length suggests.
The daughter of Invincible Spirit then failed by just a short-head to follow-up over today’s course and distance off a 5lb higher mark when ridden with more restraint, and there is little doubt in my mind that she should have won that race.
It was a similar story last time out over 6f here when she just got touched off late b y Methaaly off a mark of 53 where she found herself short of room after a furlong but still looked the likely winner after leading inside the last until being unable to find any extra in the dying strides.
She was ridden by 5lb claimer Tate on both occasions, and I feel that she will benefit from the stronger handling she gets this afternoon.
Although she now has to race off a 4lb higher mark of 57 after being raised again after her latest defeat she showed that she finished runner-up off it in a 20 runner affair at Naas in 2011 when trained by David Marnane and has improved significantly since then.
I think she is still ahead of the assessor, and in a race which should be run at a blistering gallop which will suit she rates a solid bet.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Rose Garnet (11/4 Betfred, BetVictor, Hills – BOG)
