Royal the real Deal at Donny

Royal Deal will appreciate the better going at Doncaster today and with blinkers on for the first time rates cracking value at 9/1 in the 3.30.

Mick Easterby’s gelding was successful in five pints last year and has shaped really well in his last three starts over hurdles in testing conditions.

He particularly caught the eye on the first of those at this track when beaten just a head by Kilmore Cottage off a mark of 98.

Held up in touch that day he made good progress to lead at the last before hanging due to the ground and keeping on well to be held near the line.

The winner has since gone on two land two more contests to give the form a solid look, and the selection now meets the sixth home Ali Baba on 3lb better terms having beaten him 8 1/2 lengths.

There is no reason to believe he won’t confirm the form, especially as he is now better off at the weights, and there is no way in my eyes that he should be three points bigger in the market than Alan ing’s charge.

The handicapper put Royal Deal up 5lbs for that effort, and he has since run far better than his finishing position suggest off it to finish fourth on two occasions at Catterick.

On both occasions he ran as if finding the muddy conditions against him, and today’s better ground looks sure to see him in a far better light – especially as he has now been dropped 3lbs to what looks a winnable mark of 100.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Royal Deal (9/1 bet365, Betfred, Hills, Paddy Power – BOG)
