Saddle Pack runs off a career-low mark in the 3.05 at Sedgfield today and looks decent value at 17/2 after shaping as if coming back to form last time out.
James Walton’s gelding is a three time winner over fences, with the last of those successes coming at Kelso back in January 2013 where he slammed Prince Tam by 11 lengths off a mark of 97.
The assessor put him up to 105 for that runway success, and it’s fair to say that he has struggled and not been at his best since.
However, the 12-year-old’s mark has tumbled as a result and after finishing a fair fifth of 12 to Douglas Julian two starts back he put in a much improved effort last time out when staying on to finish a 2 length third of 10 to Oxilado at Hexham off 79.
It was an effort which suggested he was still capable of winning a race of this nature, and he is now able to race off 1lb lower.
Saddle Pack’s current mark of 78 is a massive 19lb lower than when last successful, and if he can build on his lastest run then he ie weighted to take all the beating on the pick of his form.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Saddle Pack (17/2 William Hill – BOG)
