Scoopy handicapped to strike at Wolves

One Scoop Or Two has been shaping as if he is ready to take advantage of a drop in the weights and looks good value at 15/2 to do so in the finale at Wolverhampton tonight (9.15).

Reg Hollinshead’s gelding has not scored since landing a handicap at Haydock last September, but that win came off a mark of 78 and he now runs off just 68.

That makes the six-year-old very well treated, especially as he is now 16lb lower in the ratings than he was at the start of this campaign.

Although he failed to sparkle in his first four starts this season, his falling mark has seen him bounce back to form.

He finished an excellent third to Star Links over course and distance three starts back, and although he subsequently disappointed when well beaten at Chester he showed that running to be all wrong when getting back on track and finishing a highly creditable third her last time out.

That race was again over today’s trip, and he did the best of those that raced prominently in a contest that was run at a strong pace.

He was forced to use up a lot of energy from the gates from a bad draw in stall 12 to get a decent position and it was to his credit that he only weakened close home to be beaten 1 1/2 lengths into third by Saharia.

The draw (8) has been a bit kinder to him today, and with Jack Duern in the saddle taking another 7lb off his back he looks weighted to take all the beating if ridden a bit more conservatively early doors.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Once Scoop Or Two  (15/2 Hills – BOG)
