Soldier In Action looks decent each-eay value at 12/1 in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock (3.15).
Mark Johnston’s charge a tough sort who has won five of his 18 starts on the level and is a tough nut to crack when on-song.
Included in those wins is an impressive success over High Power at Goodwood back in October where powered clear to score by six lengths.
The runner-up, to whom he was conceding 5lb, has since gone on to finish third to subsequnet Ascot Gold Cup winner Big Orange in a Group 3 at Sandown before landing the valuable Northumberland Plate at Newcastle last weekend off a rating of 107.
That is strong form and Soldier In Action looked as good as ever two starts back at Epsom when when staying on strongly to beat Eddystone Rock by two lengths.
He had Carntop and Shraaoh, who reoppose, behind in third and fourth respectively, and altough now worse of with them at the weights he scored with plenty of authoity and I think he cab confirm the form.
Although not so good last time out when 12th of 19 to Rare Rhythm in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot he was far from disgraced in being beaten 6 3/4 lengths and is just the type that bounces back for the stable.
This also looks an easier class 2 contest and Soldier In Action has a 30% in the grade having won three of his 10 starts in it.
The selection also hails from a yard that has won two of the last four runnings of the race and the booking of Riochard Kingscote to do the steering is another plus as he rides the track superbly well and strike rate just over 27% at the Merseyside venue in the last 12 months.
