13/2 Double Duchess ready to rule
Double Duchess reserves her best for Southwell and having been given a chance by the handicapper makes plenty of appeal at 13/2 in the 3.20 there today.
Paul D’Arcy’s filly has run three times at the track – winning twice over today’s distance and finishing second on the other occasion under a 6lb penalty.
She was rated 72 when runner-up, and is now back down to 63 having failed to fire in three subsequent starts away from this venue.
That means that she is just 3lb higher than her last win and gives her a great chance from a handicapping point of view now returned to her favourite stomping ground.
The fibresand clearly brings the best out of her and for a front runner she is drawn to attack in stall 3.
The 13/2 on offer looks too big, and she looks sure to take all the beating with everything seemingly in her favour.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Double Duchess (13/2 Boylesports, Paddy Power – BOG)
Gracies looks a Gift at 15/2
Graces Gift has become dangerously well treated and is of major interest at 15/2 in the 4.50 at Southwell.
The nine-year-old has not been at his best this season, but is now 11lb lower than his last victory as a result.
He is also a five times course and distance winner, and off 52 is 10lb lower than when last scoring at the venue last June.
That gives Richard Guest’s charge a huge chance from a handicapping perspective and he ha shaped in his last two runs as if ready to take advantage.
He did all his best work at the finish when a solid fourth of 10 to Beckermet in soft going at Ayr and then followed up with a creditable fourth of 10 to Cheyenne Red in heavy going when returned to that venue.
The gelding wouldn’t have to improve much on those efforts to play a leading role in this, and given that his excellent record at the track a big run looks assured.
I had him priced up for this at 6/1 so the 15/2 available with Coral looks way too big and makes plenty of each-way appeal.
