Stow is a horse that goes particularly well at Chepstow and looks solid each-way value at 15/2 in the 1.00 at the Welsh track today after shaping well last time out.
Venetia Williams’ gelding was twice successful in 3m handicaps last season, including at this track when staying on strongly to beat Radmore’s Revenge by a short head.
that win came off a mark of 112 and he went on to land a Newbury handicap in the mud off a 5lb higher mark before the handicapper had his say by raising him a whopping 11lb.
That put and end to any further chance he had of adding to his tally, but his mark is gradually dropping ( now down to 123) and he shaped as if he could be ready to take advantage with any eye-catching comeback run here at the beginning of the month when fourth of 18 to Mauricetheathelete.
Although eventually beaten 23 lengths he ran far better than that indicates, racing up with the pace before appearing to blow up in the home straight and keeping on at the one pace under a tender ride.
With that run under his belt he should now be fit enough to do himself justice, and in the testing conditions which he loves a bold showing looks assured – especially as his riders 5lb claim means that he is effectively just 1lb higher than when last successful.
I had him priced up at no bigger than 6s for this, so at 15/2 he looks an each-way steal.
Daily Sports recommended bet: 3pts each-way stow (15/2 Sky Bet, Sportingbet, Stan James)
