Friday night saw DAILY SPORT team up with Mickey Helliet’s Hellraiser Promotions to sponsor a cracking nights boxing at London’s Camden Centre entitled DON’T BLINK and there were a couple of occasions on the night that lived up to the billing. With an 11 fight card which was broadcasted LIVE on Eurosport in 50 odd countries in front of a pack Camden centre crown the action got underway and first up was Danish Light-Welter Kasper Bruun up against Radoslav Mitev from Bulgaria over 6 rounds and the Dane made easy work of the job to hand and out pointed Mitev 60-54 on ref Bob Williams scorecard.
Next up Super-Flyweight Brad Watson from Guernsey took just 48 seconds to destroy Ladislav Kollar with the Slovak down he was up for 8 but still groggy ref Jeff Hinds. Great victory for the Glamour Boy who is now 4-0.
Making his pro debut was Israeli Light-Middle Danny ‘Kid’ Ahrens the Finchley based Ahrens looked quite skillful and was up against seasoned competition in Kevin McCauley who took the young Israeli the distance with Ahrens having a mark under the right eye and ref Bob Williams warning them for their heads in the 3rd the 4 rounder ended 40-37 to Ahrens.
The live TV coverage began with a 10 rounder between popular Carshalton Light-Welter Tony Owen v Aleksander from Georgia. Owen put his stamp on the bout from the off and in the 5th caught Vakhtangashvili with a cracking body shot and the fight was called a halt with Owen the winner by 5th round TKO victory.
Top of the bill was Hackney’s Wayne Alwan-Arab v Georgian Beka Sutidze for the vacant International Masters Light-Middleweight title over 10 rounds. Alwan-Arab started well and did get caught a few times throughout the bout and by the 10th the Georgian was out on his feet because of the pace of the last 9 rounds, but he managed to hang in there and lost on points 100-90 on the ref’s scorecard. I had it a lot closer than that though.
Billed as one to watch and making his pro debut was Bushey Light-Heavy Miles Shinkwin in a 4 rounder with James Tucker. Shinkwin controlled the pace throughout winning 40-36.
Elliot Matthews took just 2 rounds to dispose of Dragomir Totev after Totev going down on to 1 knee in the 1st and getting saved by the bell the fight was only going one way and Matthews stopped him in 2.06 of the second.
Ahmet Patterson made it 6-0 after stopping Yanko Marinov in 3 rounds. Marinov took a standing 8 in the 3rd before ref Jeff Hinds called a halt to the contest.
Sutton Middleweight Warren Fenn looked like he was going to be in for an easy payday up against Bognor Regis based Latvian Arthur Giekins after dropping him in the first half of the opener but the Latvian whose record was 1 loss and 1 draw got up to drop Fenn at the end of the same round. The second was a close round but the Latvia did rock Fenn once or twice, then as the third got underway Geikins landed one hell of a punch and Fenn was out cold at 0.14 the ref waived it off straight away and the medics were in the ring. Luckily all was well after a few minutes. Geikins definitely looks like one to watch if he can get the right camp behind him he has a good punch.
One of the biggest crowd pullers on the night was Euston based Light-Welter Ben Day who bought an army of fans who made there presence felt. Day looked sharp and just played with his Lithuanian opponent Aivaras Balsys. The 4 rounder went the distance with day winning 40-36.
Lat but not least Eltham Light-Middle Sonny Henty made in 2-0 beating Dan Blackwell 40-36 over 4 rounds
