The Fonz looks the type that has more to offer in handicap hurdles and at 11/2 rates the best bet on today’s Uttoxeter card in the 4.15
The six-year-old was a useful middle distance performer on the flat when trained by Sir Michael Stoute, and opened his account over the obstacles in good style when landing a handicap hurdle at Southwell in good style off a mark of 104.
The gelding travelled well throughout that contest, and after cruising to the front two from home drew clear to beat Lieutenant Miller with far more in hand than the winning margin of 4 1/2 lengths suggest.
That was his first run for 237 days, and although turned over next time up at Worcester back in novice company the run may have come too quickly and he was far from disgraced in finishing third of 13 to Special account in a strong contest as he looked the likely winner until tiring on the run-in.
Connections have since given him a break to freshen him up, and I think that his current mark of 123 is workable given his progressive profile over the sticks.
His handler Renee Robeson also does well with her runners at the track, and with underfoot conditions to suit everything looks in place for a huge run.
