The Kempton Kings

9/2 Nina Rose a blooming good bet

Nina Rose has slipped to an attractive mark and at 9/2 looks the standout bet at Kempton this afternoon (3.30).

Clive Cox’s filly had some decent form when making the frame in maidens and nurseries as a juvenile, including an excellent 5 length third to Dick Turpin at Windsor.

She was then on the side lines for two years but has been gradually working her way back to form in her three outings this season and shaped as if ready to notch her first success when a close up third here over a mile last time out.

Held-up that day the daughter of Pastoral Pursuits did best of those to come from off the pace and stayed on to great effect to be beaten just 1/2 a length by Dicoh.

The way she finished her race suggested that a step up in trip to today’s 1m 2f would be ideal, and the handicapper has taken a chance by leaving her unchanged on a mark of 57.

Given that she was officially rated as high as 71 as a juvenile and started this campaign on 64, there is little doubt that she is extremely well treated if continuing to build on the progress she has been showing.

She also has a good draw in stall four, and with John Fahy taking off another 4lb she must take all the beating.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Nina Rose (9/2 generally available – BOG)

10/1 Hereford Boy makes plenty of each-way appeal

Dual course and distance winner Hereford Boy has been given a chance by the handicapper and makes plenty of each-way appeal at 10/1 in the finale at Kempton (6.00).

Dean Ivory’s seven-year-old has been a terrific servant over the years, and although he has not managed to get his head in front since January 2010 he is now 4lb below his last winning mark.

He was an excellent third to Karaka Jack on the turf at York three starts ago off today’s mark of 68 and followed up with an unlucky in running fourth to Qenaa here over 7f.

Although he disappointed last time out, I am inclined to forgive him that run as nothing went right after a slow start and judged on his previous two outings he would have major claims of scoring an overdue success in this line-up over his best trip of a mile.

The booking of Adam Kirby also catches the eye as he has not ridden the gelding since partnering to his last success.

Everything looks in place for a huge run, and at 10/1 he looks cracking each-way value.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Hereford Boy (10/1 generally available – BOG firms)
