Marshmallow a tasty bet
Marshmallow has to be of interest now handicapping and stepped up in trip and makes plenty of appeal at 5/1 in the 2.10 at Redcar.
Chris Wall’s filly has shown enough ability in three maiden runs over 9/10f to suggest she could be well treated off an opening mark of 57.
The daughter of Tiger Hill has never finished close than fifth, but has been noted staying on under tender handling on each occasion without ever threatening to get seriously involved.
The way she has been campaigned suggest to me that she has been a slow developer and trained with staying handicaps in mind and it’s certainly interesting that connections are upping her significantly in trip this afternoon.
She is a half-sister to some smart stayers such as Defining and bed to come into her own over distances like today’s 1m 6f.
There is no doubt in my mind that she is the type who could really blossom now tackling a trip, and the handicapper seems to have given her a great chance of making hay in such events.
This certainly doesn’t look the strongest of contest, and at? She looks an each-way steal.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way Marshmallow (5/1 generally available – BOG firms)
20/1 Milton Of Campsie too big to ignore
Milton Of Campsie was a major eye-catcher last time out and look worth chancing at 20/1 in the 4.10 at Redcar to register an overdue success.
Richard Guest’s six year-old was never put into the race at any stage when running at Wolverhampton 18 days ago when ridden by Tony Culhane.
He sat motionless on her as she travelled well at the rear of the field and didn’t move a muscle at any stage as the race unfolded.
She was behind a wall of horses turning for home, and Culhane made no effort to get her involved as she eventually came home a never nearer 9 1/2 length 8th of 11 to Michael’s Nook.
I can’t really say much more, other than I’m surprised that the stewards didn’t look at the run, and although she has now not won for two years there is little doubt she has become very well treated and is capable of popping up at a nice price if bouncing back to her best and being ridden more positively.
The mare landed a hat-trick at in 5 and 6f contests two years ago when trained by John Balding, and she is now 9lbs lower than her last win at Ayr.
She also has also won over course and distance, and at 20/1 is too big a price to ignor.
Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pst each-way Milton Of Campsie (20/1 generally available – BOG firms)
