The Tichborne value at 8s to follow-up

The Tichborne finally came good when landing a gamble last time out and looks to hold solid claims of following up in the finale at Newmarket (5.05).

Roger Teale’s gelding overcame all sorts of trouble in running before beating Dickie Le Davoir by 2 lengths over 6f at Lingfield, and despite an 8lb rise in the weights remains potentially very well treated.

The four-year-old is now on a mark of 73, but that is still 14lb lower than when he finished and excellent third of 29 to Sagramor in the class 2 Britannia Handicap at Royal Ascot last year.

He led for much of the mile journey that day, and only got collared close home and lost second place in the last 50 yards to be beaten just 3/4 of a length.

It was a terrific effort and now that he has got his head back in front he looks the type to keep on the right side.

The drop back to 6f clearly did the trick last time up, and with Hayley Turner in the saddle he looks good value to go in again at the 8/1 on offer.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts each-way The Tichborne (8/1 Blue Square)
