Tuck into the 9s about Typhon

Typhon is an interesting contender now dropped back in trip in the 4.55 at Leicester today and looks worth a wager at 9/1.

David Lanigan’s well-bred colt shaped with plenty of promise in three maiden runs last year, most notably when third of 10 to the useful Glass Office over 6f at Kempton his second start and when sixth of 12 to Ajmany over 7f at Newmarket in a race which has thrown up subsequent winners.

He was allotted an opening mark of 69 on the back of those efforts and shaped with bags of promise on his handicap debut when given a very tender ride and finishing a 3 1/2 lengths third of 6 to Excellent Puck over 1m 1f at Wolverhampton.

The son of Proud Citizen then flopped on his next start at Kempton, but he showed that run was too bad to be true when opening his account back on the turf at Doncaster off 68 in 1m 2f contest.

He just held on that day to beat Invincible Cara by a neck having been produced from the rear to lead inside the last, and the runner up has scored since along with the third home Knight Owl.

The selection has since not been disgraced in two runs over 1m 2f, finishing third at Epsom where he seemed unsuited by the track and fifth of 8 to Ikhtisas at Doncaster.

On both occasions he was unable to find any extra late on, and given that he does have a tendancy to race keenly it’s interesting that connections are now dropping him back to a mile.

Given his run style a strongly run contest at today’s trip could well prove ideal, and off a mark just 4lb higher than his last success he is certainly on a mark from which he should be very competitive if that proves to be the case.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts each-way Typhon (9/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
