Understory is potentially well-treated now returned to the turf in the 4.40 at Windsor today and looks worth a wager at 5/1 to take advantage and land the spoils.

Tim McCarthy’s gelding is a genuine and tough front runner who has done most of his winning on the all-weather.

Five of his six career successes have come on the polytrack, with his last win comning off a mark of 68 two starts back at Lingfield where made all to beat Syncopate by a head.

He was the far from disgraced when finishing fourth of 7 to Standpoint at Wolverhampton last time out off 70 and it’s interesting that connections are now switching him back to the turf to try and exploit his lower mark on the surface.

The six-year-old gets into this off just 67, and with the highly talented Robert Tart in the saddle taking another 5lb off his back is on a very handy mark if able to translate the form he has shown on the AW to the grass.

Given that he has won on the surface off a mark of 72 (back in 2010) there is no reason to beleive it will be a hinderence, and on a track which often favours those that race up with the pace he could prove extremely hard to peg back if allowed his own way up front.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 3pts win Understory (5/1 generally available – use BOG firms)
