Two Hotties for Hereford

Oscar too big at 13/2

What An Oscar looks nicely treated on his best form in the 3.00 at Hereford and looks overpriced at 13/2.

Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge disappointed last time out when just 9th of 13 to Drumbaloo at Chepstow, but he made some serious errors early on which seemed to damage his confidence and this is a far weaker looking contest where he is more than capable of bouncing back.

The six-year-old looked sure to win more races when opening his hurdling account at Perth back in September, where he stayed on really well to beat Funky Munky by just over a length.

He only had to be driven out to score with a bit more in hand than the winning margin suggests and races off just a 3lb higher mark this afternoon.

That gives him a leading chance in a race where only a handful have a real chance, and the small field should hopefully enable him to get into a nice rhythm early on and getting his jumping together.

If he does then in my eyes he is clearly the one they all have to beat, and the 13/2 currently on offer looks way too big.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 2pts win What An Oscar (13/2 bet365, Victor Chandler – BOG)

16/1 Acapulco worth chancing

Acapulco Bay has slipped back to a winning mark and looks worth chancing at 16/1 in the opener at Hereford (12.55).

The gelding won a 2m handicap at Warwick in 2008/9 for Dai Burchell off a mark of 100, but then lost way for Rachel Hobbs after.

However he is now back with Burchell, and although only a well beaten seventh of 12 at Chepstow on his reappearance for him the seven-year-old he is now down to a mark of just 89 and there is every possibility that his old handler knows they key to getting him back in the winners’ enclosure.

If that is the case then he is certainly on a handy mark, and this is a very poor contest where he would be very dangerous if back to anywhere near his best.

Whether he does retain the necessary ability is a bit of a shot in the dark, and backing him clearly comes with risks attached.

However at 16/1 it looks a risk worth taking.

Daily Sport recommended bet: 1pts each-way Acapulco Bay (16/1 generally available – BOG)
